RSVP Program
A remarkable pool of talent, energy and knowledge resides in the Lake Martin area -- the volunteers of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.
RSVP was founded 25 years ago based on a growing population of seniors and the increasing need for volunteerism in the United States. RSVP of Tallapoosa and Coosa Counties begain in 1977 and is sponsored by Central Alabama Community College through in-kind contributions.
Volunteers numbered 522 during 1996 and served more than 80,000 hours at 54 non profit volunteer stations. The volunteer sites and opportunities are as varied as the volunteers themselves. Each week, RSVP volunteers can be found in the community providing a wide range of services such as transporting the sick, providing vision/hearing screenings, assisting in libraries, stuffing envelopes, operating the recycling center, assisting area indivuduals with tax preparation, building lofts for kindergarten classrooms, reading to children, visiting nursing homes, tutoring adults, delivering mail and mores.
